The number of new smartphones in the MTS-Ukraine has exceeded the number of new subscribers

The mobile operator "MTS Ukraine" provided statistics on the use of communications services owners of smartphones running the popular mobile operating systems.

As noted by the operator at the end of the third quarter of 2012 in its network, there were almost 3 million smartphones, which is 1 million more than last year. Thus, the number of new smart phones that are registered in the network in one year exceeded the number of new subscribers during the same period (about 800 thousand).

While still on the market is dominated by devices based on the platform Symbian, the most dynamic growth demonstrate smartphones running OS Android, the number of which, compared to the same period last year increased by five times. Devices on iOS and bada has doubled, but the smartphones' OSes »Windows has increased by only 12%.

The number of smartphones in the MTS network in early September 2012 (top 5 most popular OS):

Symbian - 1600 thousand.;
Android - 640 thousand piece.
iOS - 221 thousand piece.
bada - 207 thousand piece.
Windows Phone / Mobile - 91 thousand.
Owners of smartphones and tablets running Android and iOS are the most active users of mobile Internet services - on average they use about 1 GB of traffic per month. Following them in the ranking are fans of bada. It is these operating systems are leaders in the use of services to reduce the cost of Internet access - "NET at" and a package of Internet traffic.

Asus Windows 8 tablet pricing comes in high; Demand likely low

Summary: Asus' Windows 8 tablet pricing will start at $599 and run to $1,299. In other words, tablets will be more than laptops in some cases without any enterprise heft to justify a premium.

Asus has a trio of Windows 8 tablets on deck for the holidays, but the pricing is so high---$599 to $1,299 for a hybrid---that it's going to be nearly impossible to compete in the marketplace.
We were leaked Asus' holiday roadmap and the slide below tells the tale.
asusroadmap-watermarked
The challenges here are obvious despite Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer's talk of a sweet spot.
In a nutshell:
  • Asus isn't a business brand yet it is pricing its Windows tablet as if there were some enterprise secret sauce. Asus roadmap only highlighted upcoming products not the big sales pitch to differentiate these tablets.
  • Also included in Asus' roadmap are details about 12 and 13-inch laptops. What's truly odd is that one laptop is $549 and the next-gen Transformer is $1,399. The Transformer Book is billed as "one device for two personalities between tablet and notebook."
  • Consumers will balk at these tablet prices and a) either opt for a laptop or b) go with a cheaper tablet such as Apple's iPad or any variety of Android.
The roadmap here is preliminary in that Asus could change its pricing before the tablets launch along with Windows 8. But if the pricing sticks these tablets could have rough sledding ahead. Given the pricing fumbles of OEMs, it's no wonder that Microsoft has cooked up its Surface tablet. After all, Microsoft has the resources to lose money---just look at the billions lost in the search wars---in the name of market share.

Samsung Galaxy Note II (SGH-T889) coming to T-Mobile in US + OTA updates ONLINE

Our sources have just confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Note II will be coming to T-Mobile in the US.
We all know that the original Samsung Galaxy Note was going to come on T-Mobile but at the last moment got cancelled. This is not the case this time. The Samsung Galaxy Note II will be coming to all major US carriers including T-Mobile this time. T-Mobile Variant of the Galaxy Note II will be known as SGH-T889.
Our sources report that the device will be having the same specifications as the international variant and will be running on T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network. The device will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean pre-installed.
Samsung is currently working really hard testing Jelly Bean for the T-Mobile variant. Samsung compiles test builds every 4/5 days and distributes them to their device testers via OTA update.

HTC 6435LVW

It turns out that the HTC 6435LVW is everything we were hoping for. A reliable source has confirmed that the devices does feature a 5-inch 1080p HD display and is nearly identical to the mysterious black HTC device we’re already seen.  Our source has confirmed a 480ppi display, quad-core Snapdragon S4, 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. He also points out that there is a second notification LED for calls/missed alerts/charging on the back of the device near the camera.

Currently, the device is being referred to as the HTC DIx, but the name is still up in the air. Our source believes that the HTC phablet will be marketed under the DROID name due to the “red techno” background and an unmistakable robotic “DROID” notification sound. Based on that, we’re going to assume the DIx name stands for DROID Incredible X.

While a 5-inch phablet from HTC would need active pen input to directly compete with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note II, our source was not able to get the HTC Scribe pen from the Flyer to work with the device. It could be that the software has not yet been enabled, but we’re doubtful that the HTC DIx will feature active pen support. HTC has also decided not to equip the HTC DIx with a microSD card slot for external storage and the battery is said to be non-removable. This news will certainly be a disappointment to many.

Our source has been reliable in the past, but some of the details he has presented so not directly match up with previous rumors about the HTC 6435LVW. Benchmark scores have shown the HTC 6435LVW is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 with a 1794 x 1080 display featuring a pixel density of 418ppi.

As of now, the HTC DIx (HTC DROID Incredible X) is the device I am most excited about. The HTC One X+ with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 Plus will certainly make a lot of people happy, but the prospect of having a phone with Qaulcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon S4 with a 5-inch 1080p display is too compelling to overlook.

All Microsoft Employees To Get New Surface Tablets, Windows 8 Phones and PCs

At Microsoft‘s annual employee meeting, held today in Seattle, Steve Ballmer announced Microsoft will be giving all 90,000+ employees what some are calling the “Oprah treatment” – a new Surface RT tablet to use at home and work , a new work PC with Windows (employees can choose between desktops, laptops, ultrabooks and tablets) and a Windows Phone 8 device to use at home and work.

While the employee meeting was not open to the media or public, some employees tweeted and posted Facebook status updates after the announcement, verifying these details and calling it the “Best. Company meeting. Ever.” Others directly compared Ballmer to the famous talk show host known for giving away valuable prizes to audience members at random, saying “Steve Ballmer is the new Oprah!”

While these perks will only be available to full-time direct employees (known as “Blue Badges”), considering that number is over 90,000, this is quite a move for Microsoft, acknowledging not only the company’s appreciation of its employees, but its dedication to ensuring every employee is able to act as an evangelist for Microsoft’s upcoming devices and software.

Apple enhances iOS 6 multitasking with new background navigation updates

As new iOS devices become more powerful and sophisticated, Apple is likely to continue to evolve the platform's multitasking features, as exemplified by Maps' new background direction updates.

Apple's strategy of taking its Maps solo in iOS 6 was initially described in Apple wants to wipe Google off the map with iOS 6, while a second segment detailed how the company will be levering vector graphics to greatly improve the Maps experience in iOS, a third segment outlined how Apple is adding 3D Flyover features to displace Google's Street View, and a fourth described its new navigation features.

Backseat directions

One of the novel features of Apple's new Maps is that directions can continue as a background task. In fact, iOS 6 will not only put up a standard "click to return" banner for the Maps app (similar to those presented for background audio playback, VoIP or phone calls), but will also now display live "street sign" turn by turn directions (below) visible from the app you're currently using.

This enables drivers to exit Maps to text (hopefully not while driving; too much multitasking can be a bad thing), play music or check email and still get updates of upcoming turns along their route.

While something similar could be accomplished with standard notifications, the "direction signage" badge used by Maps is new to iOS 6. It lacks the app icon typical of standard banner notifications, providing more screen space to the information of the message.

The feature may eventually become something third parties can exploit to provide similar kinds of long term, location-based or urgent updates, similar to the way the iPhone's voice call-style background banners were opened up to third parties when Apple first released support for background multitasking in iOS 4.

The future of multitasking

Apple is likely to make more substantial changes to how iOS multitasks in the future as mobile devices get faster and more powerful. However, the company has not sought to multitask purely as a marketing feature, resisting the concept of "freely" running any number of apps concurrently due to battery concerns.

At some point, however, it's likely the company will enable additional new background features including, for example, the ability to respond to an incoming message without leaving the current app.

Apple has already demonstrated integrated services that work between apps, such as new support for Twitter and Facebook that enable users to post updates or share photos without leaving the current app, and for some time as supported embedding web views or composing and sending emails from within another app.

Samsung sells 30 million Galaxy S III and 20 million Galaxy Note II

Samsung Electronics has announced that later this year it plans to sell 30 million flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S III. Not long ago, we wrote that the number of these devices sold around the world, has exceeded 20 million. Thus, to achieve the goal remains "only" 10 million. It is interesting that at this rate, as now, to the end of 2012 the leader can break up even in large amounts: about 18 million. But Samsung, perhaps afraid of competition with the new iPhone 5, so that is dedicated to a more modest 10 million. addition, the South Korean company has set a target to sell twice the Samsung Galaxy Note II, than the Galaxy Note. That is, if the original "planshetofonov" Samsung has sold 10 million, the new must separate all 20 million. However, the company did not report on what terms it sets for a given indicator.

Nielsen: Android in the U.S. is growing, but iOS holds the position

Research agency Nielsen has published its report on the data in the U.S. smartphone market in the second quarter of this year. Operating systems Android and iOS keep unqualified leadership. To their share in total account for 86.2% of the total market. The proper accounting OS from Google accounts for just over half of the total market - 51.9%, and 34.3% - this is the proportion of smartphones from Apple. Located on the third place company RIM, with its BlackBerry OS can not be considered a competitor of any of these operating systems, because its market share is limited to only 8%. Other OS solid transition into the category of "other", because they account for less than 5% of the market. worth noting that the analysis by the Nielsen which ones prefer to users switching from one type of smart phones on the other hand, indicate that during the second quarter milking Android grew, while Apple managed to hold the position. 58.6% of all buyers bought Android, and iPhone - 33,0%. But here we must consider the peculiar life cycle of these operating systems: if the iPhone 4S in the second quarter on the market already spent nine months, the HTC One X only been on the shelves. At the same time, in the third quarter will the battle between Samsung and Apple - will be presented to the next generation of iPhone, and American consumers will have access to the Samsung Galaxy S III. It would not change the alignment between iOS and Android is obvious that their growth will continue to outpace the competition. In the second quarter growth of BlackBerry OS gained only 2.7% of the customers, and the "other", including Windows Phone - 5,8%. Assume that the output of Windows Phone 8 will radically change the situation to occur.
